the longest flight of my life

the morning of saturday, march 13th began the longest flight of my life. scheduled to make a quick hop "across the pond," I had come to terms with the 10 hour flight from JFK to accra, ghana (my final destination). however, due to inclement weather in new york, our group's flight was rerouted through ATL to johannesburg (18 hrs in the air) to accra (an additional 6 hrs in the air). $42 worth of airport food vouchers (gained 10 lbs), one overnight at the sleep inn motel atlanta (1.5 stars), 7 in-flight romantic comedies (mindless but totally worth it), one non-fiction book, and 3.5 pseudo-vegetarian airline meals later...i am in africa! it only took 62 hours.

i'm including a picture of the last thing that i saw before boarding my flight in atlanta to depart for africa: large flying corn phallus.

and the first thing i saw after landing in ghana. simple, yet welcoming. looking forward to sharing more adventures of the new over the next week!
